Taking your Radio Gear on an Airplane

Security has been strengthened at all airports since the events of September 11, 2001. Amateur Radio Operators should check with the airline they will be traveling on for details on security measures.

Amateur Radio Operators are safe to take a transceiver on as carry-on baggage. Security officials may ask that you turn on the equipment to show them that it is indeed just a radio transceiver. You can also check ham radio gear, but there have been some isolated reports of damage caused by the stronger x-ray gear used in the security screening.
